“I found the only way you could change people is to reach their heart.”

Jane Goodall

Catoo Lustig (she/her, 1999) is an Amsterdam-based stage director for theatre and concert, graduated at the Academy for Theatre and Dance Amsterdam. Deeply inspired by the resistance, resilience and joy in street and clubculture, she’s passionate about creating both disturbing and moving theatre shows that question the world with a critical yet compassionate eye.

Catoo consciously chooses antiheroes as her main characters, figures that are often underexposed in society or reduced to one-dimensional media images, such as the mother who abandons her child, the sexual abuser or people who live on the street. By showing their complexity and humanity, she challenges her audience to look beyond stereotypes and self-evident ideas.

Her shows combine text-based drama with (live) music and have a strong visual character. Besides her own productions she directs (concerts) for musicians and theatremakers.

Catoo collaborated with, amongst others, Frascati Producties, Likeminds, Paradiso Melkweg Productions, Joes Brauers, Claire Bender, Damani Leidsman, Waël Qadriyeh and Ola Mafaalani.

Currently she is mentored by Hiphop Academy Foundation in South-East Amsterdam for the creation of her own multi disciplinary platform: AS WE ARE Productions.
